3/10/2023 0 Comments Workspace one intelligent hubIf your device is a corporate owned device, leave it at that, only access corporate resources on it and use it for work purposes, EVERYTHING is being monitored. The company’s reach on your personal device is fairly limited to the corporate resources downloaded onto your device, but it varies from company to company… read the fine print and find out how much they can capture. If your device is a personal one, your company will require you to install the Intelligent Hub app in order to get email and corporate resources. Is your device a BYOD (personally owned device)? Or is it a corporate owned device? It really all depends on how the device is managed. I still get all kinds of questions from people about what can be captured by their company or what is being monitored, and my answer is always the same… just assume it’s everything. When it comes down to it, you are still being watched by your company and their IT team. Don’t get me wrong, if I was a corporate executive and an IT admin charged with managing all of the devices, I would utilize UEM and the Intelligent Hub. I really believe (this may be the conspiracy theorist in me) this is all a distraction from what is really going on behind the scenes. Who cares about app rating? Not me! Lastly, I think it could be helpful to have company notifications such as “do your timesheet” or “company personnel updates” but it could also get really old. Single Sign On is one of the features that’s actually really helpful, simply due to the fact that it eliminates having to remember multiple passwords and/or configuring a VPN on your device. That’s all great, but really, I see it as marketing fluff! While it might be nice to have your company’s org charts and employee directory on your device, it’s not a selling point and it’s definitely doesn’t make you feel warm and fuzzy about being monitored. These customizations are consumer simple and is an enhanced user experience.Ĭompany Notifications – Get notified on key updates within your company and improve productivity by taking action directly. You can also rate apps by clicking on the thumbs up or thumbs down. Just click on the app in the Catalog and favorite it. Single Sign On – Enter your password once and you have access to all your apps and corporate websites, without having to login to VPN or sign in to each app individually.įavorites and App Rating – You can now favorite apps and websites that you need quick access to, without having to search through the entire Catalog each time. Call, text, or email in an instant from within the app. People – Use People within the Intelligent Hub App to access the corporate directory, employee details, organization chart. Here are some of the features that you can take advantage of with the Intelligent Hub: As stated above, VMware wants the employee to interact with the Hub app unlike the AirWatch Agent app of the past. Intelligent Hub has many new features over the AirWatch Agent. How You Can Interact with Intelligent Hub The Intelligent Hub does much more, as VMware tries to make the Hub a more interactive, “customer focused” app instead of just IT administration (see the image below). The AirWatch Agent was pretty much just an install, and then it collected info and maintained a profile on your device. The branding is much different, with the AirWatch Agent app being a shield with “AW” in the middle, the Intelligent Hub is a hexagon, with three distinct corners highlighted in dark blue and no letters or words. There are differences in the usability of the app, where the AirWatch Agent wasn’t necessarily interactive, the Intelligent Hub is (more to come on this). So the question remains, is the “Intelligent Hub” still capturing all my data, and if so, what is it collecting? I wrote a blog post a couple of years ago that has become the most read post in the history of my blog titled, “ AirWatch: What it Can and Can’t Do.” This is a good post to read that will bring you up to speed, but we’re going to dive deeper on what is being collected by the Intelligent Hub. The AirWatch Agent has been renamed to the Intelligent Hub. In the near future, there may be an “agentless” operation for collecting data from your company owned or BYOD device, but for now, the AirWatch Agent is required. The most important piece of the AirWatch puzzle has to be the AirWatch Agent, because AirWatch was and is an agent based tool. Just about all references to AirWatch have been wiped out. It went from AirWatch by VMware, to VMware AirWatch and now it’s just Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM). Since VMware’s acquisition of AirWatch back in 2015, rebranding has been slowly building over the years.
